Happy Full Worm Moon!
I get asked all the time about what I do to celebrate and honor the cycles of the moon. On the next new moon I will post rituals/practices for those days, but for now some information about the full moon. Energetically, full moons can make us feel overwhelmed, hyper energized, stimulated and unable to sleep. In our practice we can over exert ourselves, push too much and injury our bodies due to a false sense of energy. In our lives we can act impulsively and erratically. The full moon can provide a false sense of being plugged in rather than exhausted. Additionally we can feel like we have no sense of grounding and home.
To counteract this energy influence on our mat I suggest poses that work directly with the first chakra: leg and feet poses. Any forward fold, and standing poses such as Tadasana and Tree Pose can help immensely with inviting in grounding. What I particularly like to teach is some version of Chandra Namaskar, or moon salutations. This series of poses is specifically designed to invite in grounding rather than energizing. Chandra, or the moon, is characterized by feminine energy in the form of grounding, soothing aspects. Chandra Namaskar can shift your energy from intense to softer. Here is a short video where I outline how to do this sequence, or at least one version of it:

Finally, the full moon is a great time to release things that no longer serve you. Full moons represent the end of a monthly moon cycle and so it is a moment to reflect about what you do not wish to carry on to the next month. Sit down and make a list of things you no longer need, that impede your practice or your path and ones that you’ve held on to but no longer are of benefit. Then either shred that sheet of paper or burn it safely as a symbolic way to let those things go.
You can create a ceremony around the full moon by collecting your crystals to put out into the moonlight for recharging. All crystals benefit from this practice, although be mindful that some are sensitive to water (i.e. selenite) so do not include them if it is very misty or raining. A smudging stick such as palo santo or white sage can clear the energetic space if lit and smolders in your space. Generally walking counterclockwise with the smudge stick can clear the energetic space, walking clockwise can invite in good energy. Be sure to open a window when you are clearing space so that energy has a way to leave. Drawing oracle cards can give you some insight into what you need to let go during this key moon cycle.
Honoring the moon helps remind us how primal and intimately connected to nature we are. Full Moon Blessings xo
