Has the latest infectious bug hit your town? It’s in full force here with my kids’ friends out of school, my friends with gastrointestinal and respiratory bugs keeping them homebound and seemingly everyone in public coughing in our faces. Don’t worry friends, I have three essential oils to help you during this time of lots of infectious stuff going around the town.
1.) OnGuard: OnGuard is dōTERRA’s protective blend. We use it at home for immune support and protection against all sorts of infectious bugs. At the first sign of scratchy throats, stuffy noses or aches and pains we start to use it. The same is true if we hear that our kids’ friends are experiencing those symptoms, because we know it’s a matter of time for them to get sick too.
OnGuard can be used three ways: internal, aromatic and topical. It has a combination of Orange, Cinnamon bark, Cinnamon leaf, Clove, Eucalyptus and Rosemary oils for protective support. We typically use it in the diffuser (try with Wild Orange or Peppermint) to infuse our air with immune supportive oils. We use the OnGuard hand soap, because we know that washing your hands is the #1 preventative method for infectious diseases. This soap is the ONLY one that does not dry my skin out, and is great for kids because it foams. You get the cleaning properties of the soap AND the immune support properties of this essential oil blend all in one fail swoop. Finally, we roll the oil on the bottoms of all of our feet at night and if things are really not great in the morning as well.
In addition, I carry with me an OnGuard sanitizing spray for use in public situations (like shopping carts and door handles), and we take the OnGuard+ soft gels if we want extra support. If you find your throat scratchy and irritated, try the OnGuard lozenges. I like to keep them for my yoga students during Savasana at this time of year. For those who wish to use OnGuard internally, it can be added to a spoonful of honey or slices of apples. *
2.) Breathe: Breathe is dōTERRA’s respiratory support blend. It has soothing and respiratory helping oils such as peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, cardamom and more. It can be used topically and aromatically.
We use the Breathe in the diffuser at night when we are needing breathing support. Mix it with Serenity and/or Lavender. We also apply it to the bottoms of feet, and on the chest. For smaller children make sure it is diluted, and you can also try the Breathe stick which is for all ages. For irritated throats from respiratory stuff, try the Breathe lozenges.
3.) Oregano: Oil of immune support is a great name for Oregano. This powerhouse can be used internally, topically and aromatically. When you apply it topically make sure it’s diluted because it is considered a “hot oil.”
Use Oregano in combiation with either of the two blends above, or solo when sickness strikes. Try rolling on bottom of feet and along the spine. It can also be combined with Frankincense, Copaiba, Lemon, OnGuard in a veggie cap (one drop each) for a few days to be taken internally by an adult. This combo can be added to a roller for children, make sure it is highly diluted. Finally, make sure that you do not use Oregano internally for extended periods of time, only while you are using it for immune support.
