I’m almost done with day three of a juice cleanse. So many people have seen my Instagram posts about it and asked who it was that I thought I would write a little review. First of all let me say that I did this 3-day juicing with my husband NOT because we wanted a detox or to lose weight but truthfully because it sounded like an adventure and we wanted to know if we could do it. Did we have the willpower to not eat anything for three days? So here is the skinny:
What? 3-day juice Cleanse 1 from Pressed Juicery. I chose Pressed Juicery because I had tried juices from some of the other bigger brand names and was not a fan. Several friends had raved about their juices (PJ) and so I figured they must be good. We selected Cleanse 1 because it was our first time doing it and because we are not cautious eaters. The juices we received each day were as follows (with review):
Vanilla Almond: pretty yummy and made me think I’d like to start every morning this way. The only issue I had was that I found this one made my blood sugar crash earlier than strictly juice and that made me hungry. I think the dates and the almond milk added to that sugary crash, but they made it feel more substantial than the juice-only ones.
Greens 2: strictly juice and delish and definitely in my top three of juices of this cleanse
Roots 2: this juice was fantastic and made me want to order juices on a regular basis from Pressed Juicery. Loved and looked forward to it each day. My favorite of all of them.
Citrus 2: this was a sweet juice with a kick from lemon. not a fan. the first sip tasted so refreshing but after that it became way too much.I did not even finish the whole thing the second day. I think I would replace it with another green juice or coconut water next time. my husband loved it though.
Greens 3: again another fantastic and delicious juice. Similar to Greens 2 this one had ginger for an added kick. my second favorite juice for sure.
Chocolate almond: our second almond milk drink of the day. I craved it all day long and when we got it on day one I was a bit disappointed, it was too chalky for me. Day two it was delicious so I think it was really needed for energy and sustenance.
How it went:
Day 1.) All I wanted was snacks: crackers, chips, salty things. My husband was the same. We craved the things we love and usually have. We were both a bit hungry and light headed but not too bad.
Day 2.) I could have eaten our rug, and I think my husband might have been a skosh worse since he needs more calories. Starving and missing not so much our favorite foods but more the ritual of eating meals. I missed cooking and creating meals, and then sitting down at regular times and eating them.
Day 3.) I am seriously dreading this whole day because I’m about done. My husband would echo this sentiment. At this point in time we are sticking it out because it’s a challenge but we’re done with not eating. I am tired of juice and ready for some food. Both of us are only thinking about chips and salsa. All. The. Time.
Would we do it again? I think it’s unlikely that we would do a three day juicing again, but I definitely would do it for a day. What I noticed was that I really became aware of my eating patterns and times I snacked that I really did not need to do so. I am craving mostly healthy things like strawberries and salad and less of the crackers (although chips and salsa YES). We both felt really draggy the whole time and like we did not have enough calories to keep us going but in truth we made it through our day really well and managed to stick to it. We both may have lost a pound or two, but really that was not our goal and I am sure that once we add food back it will come back. I disagree with the claims that you have mental clarity, I know my husband does too. We felt foggy and distracted by wanting to eat and not getting to do so.
We also did not cut out coffee as is recommended so neither of us had headaches or the side effects of that. We both had only black coffee and minimal amounts, just enough to keep the ick of detoxing from that at bay.
I did do dry brushing every day but did not do any of the other recommended things like Epsom salt baths and colonics (EEK). I found that my skin feels much less dry and itchy which is likely from the dry brushing. My hair has never been curlier which I’m not sure is coming from the cleanse or not.
I highly recommend doing it with another person because there were many moments I wanted to cheat or give up and my husband was a rock. We were able to laugh hysterically all along at the insanity of what we were doing and the funny aspects of it (needing to pee constantly, getting excited for almond milk, fantasizing about chips). It made it much easier to have a partner.
I would DEFINITELY do a one day juicing from Pressed Juicery and am considering a subscription delivery service of their juices. Overall the juices were terrific and I loved them, but really do not feel the need to do more than one day.
