#findyourwings: Day 78 Lovely Day: A Masala Mysore Rug Giveaway!

Today is the Vernal Equinox.  Dear readers of the Northern Hemisphere it is officially the first day of spring!  The darkness of winter will slowly fade and the bright sunshine and flowers will begin to show their faces.  Despite being a cold and snow fanatic, I too embrace these seasonal changes with aplomb. I love being able to go barefoot.  I love seeing the green and the leaves return to the trees.  I love having baby deer in our yard and Luna moths returning at night.

It is hard not to embrace the teeming of life that comes with spring.

My practice changes along with the weather. I crave more heart openers, more heat and lots and lots of twisting.  I want my body to move and groove. I want to take my yoga outside and I want to feel the sun inside and out of my body.

I dream of Surya Namaskars on the lawn.

In honor of the warmth and brightness that is coming, and thanks to the awesome crew at Barefoot Yoga, I give you my latest giveaway.  To celebrate the desire to open our windows and bust our asanas on the green grass, in cahoots with Barefoot Yoga (a totally perfect name for a company, right?), I am giving away a Masala Mysore Practice Rug. These rugs  absorb sweat and water, and actually work best when damp, to provide great traction and stretch to help hold a pose.  So April showers will not deter you from flowing in the flowers! They are great on their own or paired with a mat

Here is the skinny on how you can win this awesome practice rug and celebrate your lovely days of spring practicing yoga on it:

What: One Masala Mysore Practice Rug from Barefoot Yoga. Perfect for using inside alone,  or with a mat underneath, or on the grass or at the beach!

How: This giveaway is open to US residents only (sorry, I promise an international one soon). You MUST do the following:

1.) Like BOTH Flying Yogini and Barefoot Yoga on Facebook.

2.) Sign up for the Flying Yogini Newsletter

3.) Add a comment here telling us what pose you crave most in the spring

*** For an extra entry you can post a photo of yourself in your spring asana with bare feet to my Facebook page wall.  Be sure to tag Barefoot Yoga as well****

When: This giveaway runs from 3/20/13 until 3/31/13 6:00 a.m. EST  The winner (selected at random) will be announced here, on Facebook and on Twitter.

Thanks so much to Barefoot Yoga for collaborating with me on this giveaway. May you feel the cool grass between your toes in Tadasana before your soar with your wings in the sunny spring sky.

Best of luck and three cheers for spring!

OM! OM! OM!

I crave balancing poses, especially standing ones. Dancer, tree, eagle…they connect to the earth and the air at the same time and feel like the essence of spring.

I crave a barefoot tadasana in spring with the green grass and flowers tickling my feet and the sunbeams kissing my face with eyes closed receiving all the deliciousness of the Divine. Oh my goodness I believe I just started another poem for my third book of inspirational poetry. Namaste and hope I win!

I received wheel this week in class twice, where you can be grounded and open all at once, and push yourself higher and opening up more – growing.

In addition, I think it’s good to remember that the southern hemisphere now is in autumn…change abounds for all.

(Not on facebook, so no chance to win. You might consider the few of us who are not on FB sometime for a giveaway! *smile* )

Thanks for the chance to share! Namaste

Spring time, for me, brings upon bodily cravings to express Utthita Trikonasana, aka Triangle Pose. As the days grow longer and brighter and the weather warms up, my body opens up in this pose like a plant growing out of the soil. As seedlings sprout a shout of vibrant green in the Earth, I (without fail) get a deep pop of the greater trochanter as I bend my torso over to one side. I then bend and re-straighten my front knee until I find just that right sigh in my hamstrings, the way that leaves unfold and sometimes tuck back in at night. In the fullness of the expression, like the face of a flower at noon, my arm extends long and high with my hand reaching up to the sun.
