Good morning lovely readers! I am super excited to tell you about the latest collection from my good friend Lauren of Jewels of Saraswati. Her “Shakti” line is a fresh addition to the amazing goodies she’s been offering for years over at Jewels of Saraswati. This new line is more eco-conscious, a little higher end and all handmade. The goodies come with jute bags, recycled metals and are made healing stones and recycled saris. I have always loved Lauren’s jewelry, but now I am crazy over the moon with the new line. The collection currently contains arm saris like the Breathe arm sari below and gorgeous hand hammered earrings.

To help Lauren celebrate these gorgeous goodies, I am giving away a pair of the recycled sterling silver and green aventurine Temple earrings. These hand hammered earrings are stunning and ...

Hey yogis, friends and dear readers. I did it! I finally conquered one of my biggest fears and posted my first video on line. It’s not perfect (you’ll be missing my head in one part), I made a little mistake (can you find it) and it looks a lot faster than it felt. But damn it, it’s live and out there for all to see. I’m currently working on not criticizing myself over the little flaws I see and am embracing the freedom that comes from jumping off this cliff.

The first video is about Chandra Namasakar, also know as Moon Salutations. This practice is perfect for tomorrow’s New Moon in Aries. New Moons are times of intention and manifestation, and with Aries being the beginning of the Zodiac cycle, this moon is the most powerful for starting new things. Practice ...

One of my favorite things to share with my readers is companies that not only are smaller and yogi-driven, but ones that give back. While so many businesses put their focus on the bottom line, it is always refreshing to find ones that support community organizations, non-profits and groups that need a little extra influx of revenue. These, dear readers, are the companies we should always put at the top of our list to support. These are the companies I want to promote and hopefully by doing so we further this kind of action by businesses as a whole.

When Be Love contacted me about doing a giveaway here for you, I instantly said “YES!” Not only am I crazy about the messages on their clothes, but having bought some of their shirts, I am also aware of the service aspect ...

It is officially mud season here in CT. There is still several inches of snow on the ground but the temperatures are high enough to slowly melt it all. The water has saturated the ground and my driveway, my yard and the sides of my car are caked in mud. We are talking the squishy, stuck in it, peanut butter style mud that traps you like fly paper.

There is a heaviness that can render you still.

While I realize this muddy sloshing is part of the flow of seasons, it also can be a struggle. Nothing is ever clean, you cannot drive fast and everything looks sort of a dull, blah brown shade. It is hard to feel inspired to get up and move, let alone go outside and fly.

Sometimes the choices we make off the mat and on it can ...

Today is the Vernal Equinox. Dear readers of the Northern Hemisphere it is officially the first day of spring! The darkness of winter will slowly fade and the bright sunshine and flowers will begin to show their faces. Despite being a cold and snow fanatic, I too embrace these seasonal changes with aplomb. I love being able to go barefoot. I love seeing the green and the leaves return to the trees. I love having baby deer in our yard and Luna moths returning at night.

It is hard not to embrace the teeming of life that comes with spring.

My practice changes along with the weather. I crave more heart openers, more heat and lots and lots of twisting. I want my body to move and groove. I want to take my yoga outside and I want to feel the sun ...

Wow dear readers, it has taken me almost a month to get back to my own blog for a post! I apologize for the delay but know I have been busy busy busy busy busy. My writing time has been relegated to posts for several other sites and magazines. Add to that life with the elves, subbing tons of classes to pay back for all the ones I missed with the flu and you see why these cyber pages have been quiet. The last few weeks have felt a little bit like madness.

I came to my yoga practice initially to find quiet and space. I grew to feel powerful and strong as I added advanced asanas and more class notches to my belt. Yet with those powerful and intense approaches to practice I noticed the frenzied pace of my life ...

For my first giveaway of 2013, I wanted to share something I love and by a company that I also think is cool. This month I’m giving away a recycled glass and Rudrashka bead mala from Sara Lua Designs.

I love supporting smaller businesses, especially those that promote the environment, are run by yogis and that have super nice folks at the helm. Sara Lua Designs is a perfect example of a rocking company I want you to know about. Sara, jewelry maker and sweet lady extraordinaire, creates jewelry from eco-bamboo and recycled glass beads. She adds details to make them special like Rudrashka beads from her trips to Bali or quotes that hint to her big heart. Her bamboo dog tags are ridiculously cool and her malas are strung beautifully. All of her jewelry is über unique and very hip.

I am sharing ...

Note to self: do not start a writing challenge because it is a guarantee something outside your control will prevent you from doing it. The first #365yoga challenge I set for myself came with 5′ of snow in CT and 9 snow days (read: no solo time to write). This writing challenge has come with the flu. That darn pesky virus has descended upon our house despite our annual vaccine and has shut down everything for the past five days. My eldest elf started the chain reaction followed rapidly by me and my youngest elf. Yesterday the three of us were at home, hunkered down on the couch on our respective iDevices and taking ibuprofen at regular intervals. It has been a long week and I cannot remember the last time I was this sick if ever. Needless to say ...

Yesterday when I was home with a sick elf I decided to make lentil soup. It is one of the staples in our winter diet so no real surprise that I had all the fixings for it. However, the last batch I made was missing something; it was bland and only sort of tasty. With that in mind I decided to crank up the amount of spices I added to the pot this time. I grabbed the curry powder, the cayenne pepper, some hot sauce and what I thought was the cumin and dumped the lot in with all the lentils and mirepoix I had. But, it smelled different: not like a familiar Indian soup, but more complex. Suddenly I realized what I had done. I had grabbed the cinnamon instead of the cumin. They look virtually identical and I ...
